대한올림픽위원회(이하 'KOC')가 "본래 진의가 와전 곡해 보도됐다"고 주장하고 있는 문제의 성명서가 공개됐다. 성명 대부분은 '항의 사태에 관련된 정황'을 밝히는 `해명`이 주를 이루고 있다. 성명은 "KOC와 한국빙상연맹이 국제빙상연맹(ISU) 심판의 빈번하고 부적절하며 불공정한 판정에 대해 항의하는 것"이지, "IOC나 대회 조직 위원회와 분쟁이 있는 것은 아니다"고 밝히고 있다.성명 끝부분에서는 "성공적인 서울올림픽 대회를 준비한 KOC는 언제나 올림픽의 이념을 지지해 왔으며 앞으로도 그러할 것이다"로 시작하는 '외교적 수사 표현'을 볼 수 있다. 현재 KOC는 "성명서 내용 중 극히 일부분의 외교적인 수사 표현이 원본과는 달리 본래 진의가 와전 곡해 보도됐다"면서, '김운용 KOC위원장의 성명서 내용에 대한 배경'이란 제목의 해명서를 홈페이지에 띄워 놓고 있다. 한편, 대한체육회 명의로 발표됐던 '해명서'는 27일 오전 11시부터 KOC가 작성한 것으로 변경됐다. 다음은 성명서 전문이다.KOC의 입장- 항의는 기술적 판정에 대한 것일 뿐, 선수 혹은 올림픽 운동에 대한 것은 아니다 -솔트레이크시티, 유타 (2002년 2월 22일)KOC는 최근 항의 상태에 관련된 정황을 분명히 밝히려 합니다.KOC와 한국빙상연맹은 심판 판정에 항소를 못한다는 29조 그늘에 숨어 국제 빙상 연맹 심판의 부적절하며 불공정한 판정에 대해 항의하고 있습니다. 바로 같은 심판이 남자 1000미터와 남자 1500미터 쇼트트랙 스피드 스케이팅 경기에서 의심스러운 판정을 내렸습니다.KOC는 ISU가 그들의 결정을 기술적인 측면에서 재검토하기를 요청했습니다. The same referee made questionable decisions that affected the outcomes of both the men's 1,000m and 1,500m short track speed skating races.The KOC asked the ISU to review the decisions on their technical merits. As the ISU has rejected out initial protest, the KOC has appealed to the Court of Arbitration in Sport, which is its right within the rules of sport. "I have met with Dr. Jacques Rogge, IOC president, to explain our complaint and the reasoning behind our protest. While the IOC cannot address our concerns, Dr. Rogge understands our position." said Dr. Un Yong KIM, president of the KOC and member of the IOC. "We are making a protest purely on technical grounds. We have no dispute with the IOC or the organizers of these Games. All the athletes have competed well and honorably, but the referee has failed them. We will continue to do everything we can to rectify these injustices. "As organizers of the successful Seoul Olympic Games, the KOC has always and will continue to uphold the Olympic ideals. These Olypic Winter Games have continued the Olypic Movenment's long tradition of bringing athletes from around the world together.
